Pokwang joins Diokno's celebrity supporters, calls him a 'good dad'

As the election campaign goes on, senatorial candidate Jose Manuel 'Chel' Diokno has secured pledge of support from another celebrity. This time, it is from actress-comedian Marieta Subong, popularly known as “Pokwang”.

In a Twitter post, Pokwang joined the growing list of local celebrities backing Diokno’s candidacy.

“Dios mio panginoong mahabagin!! mag @ChelDiokno nalang ako!! kaloka sabi nga ni Gary V, dina natuto (Our merciful God! I’ll rather go for @ChelDiokno!! It’s crazy like what Gary V said, we never learn),” she said on Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Diokno, a human rights lawyer, replied with a comment: “Naku po, chel ka lang @pokwang27. Maraming maraming salamat sa suporta (Oh, just chill @pokwang27. Thank you very much for your support).”

The actress then told Diokno that she’s a huge fan of his, to which the Senate bet responded: “I’m also a big fan of yours! My son Pepe speaks so highly of you!”, referring to his son, award-winning director Pepe Diokno.

“Waaaahhh I love him napakabuting tao. Maganda pagpapalaki nyo sa kanya (He is a good person. You raised him well),” Pokwang said, tagging @PepeDiokno.

The veteran lawyer has gained the support of various celebrities, including TV host Vice Ganda and actress Heart Evangelista.

In Naga City, he also met other celebrity supporters during the Feb. 8 campaign kickoff of the Leni-Kiko slate. Among them were Rivermaya, Nikki Valdez, Cherry Pie Picache, Bituin Escalante, Agot Isidro and The Company.

If elected to the Senate, Diokno committed to establish access to free legal assistance in every barrio, like the Free Legal Helpdesk that he put up on his Facebook page, to provide ordinary citizens with immediate legal help.

He also vowed to strengthen the country’s barangay justice system by beefing up the capability of the Lupong Tagapamayapa in dealing with legal issues among residents.
