The Muntinlupa City government has extended the deadline for the renewal of business permits until March 31 without any penalty.

This is based on Muntinlupa City Ordinance 2022-318 passed by councilors and signed by Mayor Jaime Fresnedi.

The ordinance extends “the filing/renewal of business permits and the payment of all local taxes, fees and other charges without penalty up to the closing hours of March 31, 2022.”

Last month, the City Council extended the renewal of business permits from Jan. 20 to Feb. 15 for the benefit of taxpayers, “majority of whom, financially, were affected by the pandemic.”

This time, the City Council approved another extension at the request of the Business Permit and Licensing Office (BPLO), which noted “the economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic and other disasters such fire, and taxpayers may not be able to immediately comply with the mandatory and requisite documents which are the basis for the prudent and correct imposable taxes.”

According to the ordinance, under Section 167 of Republic Act No. 7160 (Local / Government Code of 1991), “all local taxes, fees and charges shall be paid within the first twenty (20) days of January or of each subsequent quarter, as the case may be. The Sanggunian concerned may, for a justifiable reason or cause, extend the time of payment of such faxes, fees, or surcharges or penalties but only for a period not exceeding six (6) months."

According to the BPLO, all transactions are now back at the Muntinlupa City Hall.

The ordinance granting extension to the renewal of business permits was sponsored by Councilors Francis lan Bagatsing, Raul Corro, Paty Katy Boncayao, Louisito Arciaga, Allan Rey Camilon, Ting Niefes, Ivee Rhia Tadefa, Marissa Rongavilla, Mark Lester Baes, Ma.
