Carlos denies he went to Balesin to meet the Ongpins, discuss Julian's case

Gen. Dionardo Carlos, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), denied on Wednesday, Feb. 23, that he went to Balesin to meet the owners and discuss the case of Julian Ongpin.

The owner of the high-end and exclusive Balesin Island resort are the Ongpins and their son, Julian, who was linked to the death of artist Bree Jonson and was slapped with a drug case over some grams of cocaine that were seized inside their room in a La Union resort.

"There is no truthto the reported claim of the Jonson camp that I went to the island to meet the Ongpins to discuss the case of Julian Ongpin," said Carlos in a statement released on Wednesday, Feb. 23.

"Any insinuation or attempt to link me to the Ongpin family is unfounded and baseless," he added.

The Julian Ongpin case was dismissed and is on appeal.

The DOJ and the NBI have been handling the parallel investigation and Carlos said the probe was done long before he was appointed as Chief PNP.

Carlos has been the subject of criticisms since the crash of a PNP helicopter that was supposed to fetch him in Balesin. A policeman died and the two police pilots were injured.
