A 4.3-magnitude earthquake shook Davao del Sur at around 6:44 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 22, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The epicenter of the earthquake was traced 7 kilometers (km) southeast of Kiblawan, Davao del Sur at a shallow depth of 13 km.
Phivolcs said the quake was moderately strong at Intensity IV in Kiblawan, Hagonoy, Digos City, Sulop, Matanao, and Padada in Davao del Sur and Malungon in Sarangani.
Meanwhile, it was "weak" at Intensity III in Magsaysay, Santa Cruz, and Bansalan in Davao del Sur; Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat; Kidapawan City, and Makilala in Cotabato; and Tupi in South Cotabato.
It was "slightly felt" at Intensity II in Davao City in Davao del Sur and Kabacan, M'lang, Magpet, Tulunan, and Matalam in Cotabato.
Its instruments also measured the earthquake at Intensity IV in Kidapawan City, Cotabato; and Intensity II in General Santos City, South Cotabato.
Phivolcs said the earthquake was tectonic in origin, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
However, Phivolcs does not expect damage or aftershocks due to this earthquake.
