'Filipinos must fight disinformation to keep EDSA spirit alive' —Robredo
ILIGAN CITY — Presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday, Feb. 22, called on the public, the youth, and news agencies to band together to fight against disinformation, believing that this is one way to keep the spirit of the EDSA people power revolt alive.

Fighting against fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, she said, should be “beyond politics.”
“Kailangan magdesisyon tayong lahat na pagtulong tulungan natin ito (All of us need to decided to help here). Ano ito (This is) beyond politics,” she told reporters in a media interview during the Iligan-Lanao People’s Rally here in Rizal Park.
“Hindi dito tinitignan kung anong partido tayo pero dapat, dapat nare-realize natin na 'yung demokrasya natin 'yung at stake pag 'yung pagdedesisyon ng tao ay nakabase sa maling information saka sa kasinungalingan (We are not looking at what party we are from but we should realize that our democracy is at stake and the decision of the people is based on wrong information and lies),” Robredo, a victim of fake news for the past six years, said.
The Vice President explained that the “architecture for disinformation” is “well-entrenched” and that it has already affected the mindset and beliefs of the people.
Robredo has admitted in past interviews that her political awakening happened during the years leading to the EDSA People Power in 1986.
She will spend the 36th anniversary of EDSA I on Friday, Feb. 25, in Iloilo City with her supporters.

The aspiring president credited news agencies who have gotten together to check fake news, but she stressed that more needs to be done.
“Pero ang paniniwala ko, kailangan lahat tayo mag-go (But my belief is that we need to go) out of our way to organize people,” she said.
Robredo cited as an example the youth, who are digital natives, who can join the fight against disinformation because “kung hindi natin ito pagtutulungan, ang apektado nito hindi lang 'yung election pero 'yung buong demokrasya natin (if we don’t do it together, the elections are not the only one affected but our whole democracy).”
