DOLE provides emergency employment to 7,030 Surigaonons

BUTUAN CITY – A total of 7,030 victims of typhoon Odette in the province of Surigao del Norte have benefited from the emergency employment program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/ Displaced Workers (TUPAD).

Each worker received P3,200 for 10 days of work which included house cleaning, home rebuilding, road cleaning, and declogging of canals.

The total financial assistance extended has reached to P23 million, according to DOLE 13 Regional Director Joffrey M. Suyao.

DOLE 13 officials lauded the efforts of TUPAD coordinators in facilitating the employment of the affected workers and for the speedy processing of the salaries and wages of the beneficiaries.

TUPAD is an institutionalized, community-based amelioration program aimed at helping displaced, underemployed, and seasonal workers during calamities, both natural and man-made.

To date, DOLE PDISO already facilitated the release of P11,747,200 benefiting 3,671 eligible beneficiaries. It also expedited the release of salaries to the Dinagatnon beneficiaries.
