TACLOBAN CITY - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-8) has tapped the help of 31 families in planting local tree species in a 220-hectares of land in Northern Samar province.

Under the Enhanced National Greening Program (ENGP), the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), through its Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in Pambujan, recently inked Letters of Agreement (LOA) with 31 families from barangays Ginagdanan and Pagsang-an, in San Roque town.
The "family approach" engages upland and rural families in the implementation of the ENGP.
It aims to contribute to the government’s objective in providing additional income to families affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
The LOA states that under a three-year contract, the identified family beneficiaries in Brgy. Ginagdanan are expected to plant indigenous tree species in a 70-hectare area under a contract price of P1.820 million.
Family beneficiaries in Brgy. Pagsang-an are expected to plant indigenous tree species in a 150-hectare area worth P3.9 million.
Fifteen percent of their total mobilization fee shall be released as soon as the LOA is notarized.
Succeeding payments will be released corresponding to the contracted families’ performance and their plantation’s survival rate of at least 85 percent.
PENRO Northern Samar identified the municipality of San Roque as a priority area for this year’s implementation of the ENGP in support of the conservation and protection efforts for the Bantayan Watershed located in the area.
