Cristy Fermin's camp reiterates complaint is against Dawn Chang's lawyer

Cristy Fermin’s legal counsel, Atty. Ferdie Topacio, recently made clear the lawsuit they will be filing in court is against Dawn Chang’s lawyer and not the dancer-actress.
“Hiwalay naman ito kung ano yung ipa-file ni Dawn Chang. Ang task naman namin dito ay si Atty. Calinisan, for issuing that public statement na tingin namin ay labag sa batas at labag sa kanyang code of conduct bilang isang abogado. Iba naman po yun," he said in an article published on PEP.ph, recently.
Topacio said they just wanted Atty. Rafael Vicente Calinisan to "apologize" but the latter didn't comply.
It is as such, he said, that they are now pursuing a case against him.
As to what case exactly, he said: "Depende po sa statement ng witnesses, madi-determine namin kung anong ground."
“Yung kanyang misconduct as a lawyer ay administrative case yun for disbarment," he related. “Puwede ka naman mag-statement na abogado. Ako... I make public statement all the time pero hindi personal.”
Recall that it was only a few days ago when Topacio announced Fermin is pursuing legal action against Calinisan.
It all started with Calinisan issuing a statement against Fermin asking her to apologize publicly for making libelous claims against Chang in her show “Cristy Ferminute.”
Calinisan quoted Fermin as supposedly saying: “Ikaw ang dapat i-bash dahil wala kang mararating kung hindi ka nakikipaglandian sa mga boss. Naku ha, Dawn Chang, tumigil ka nga...”
He wrote: “The statement of Cristy Fermin against our client, Ms. Dawn Chang, is malicious and libelous. We take note of her statement, and as her lawyers, we are also personally offended by it.”
Calinisan went on to describe Fermin as another case of a “reporter/publicist gone rouge.”
“Kung wala kang kredibilidad, wag kang mandamay. Let us be clear: no one has the right to objectify women and disparage their reputation. Ang mga babae ay nirerespeto at minamahal,” he said.
Calinisan then gave Fermin until midnight of Feb. 16 to apologize, warning that if she failed to do so, they will pursue criminal, civil, and even administrative actions against the seasoned journalist.
But Fermin was quick to counter.
Her lawyers also demanded a letter of apology from Calinisan, giving him the same date of Feb. 16 as deadline.
They warned: “Your failure to do so within the time given by us will leave us no choice but to file against you the proper criminal, civil and administrative complaints before the proper courts and the Committee on Bar Discipline.”
Calinisan as with Chang are still silent on the matter.
