The northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may bring light rains over most of Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Monday, Feb. 21.
PAGASA said cloudy skies and rains may prevail over Aurora, Quezon, Cagayan, Isabela, Batanes, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya.
It advised those in these areas to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of moderate to at times heavy rains.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may also experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated light monsoon rains.
Moreover, PAGASA said the trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA), as well as the warm easterly winds, may bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over Southern Palawan, Zamboanga Peninsula, Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, Soccsksargen, and Davao Region.
Weather specialist Grace Castañeda said the LPA is not expected to move closer to the country's landmass but could bring some rains over several areas in Mindanao.
The rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the easterlies, or warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.
PAGASa also advised those in areas that will likely be affected by severe thunderstorms to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides.
