VP bet Pangilinan tells parents: 'Trust science, get your kids vaccinated'
Parents were urged by aspiring vice president Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan to trust the experts and have their kids vaccinated against coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

“Huwag magpapaniwala sa haka-haka, sa siyensa tayo magtiwala (Don't believe in mere speculations, trust science),” Pangilinan said on Sunday, Feb. 20, dispelling fake news that vaccination is not safe for children under 11 years old.
The senator told parents not rely on disinformation regarding vaccines as science already confirmed that it is safe for children to be inoculated.
“Base sa mga eksperto, safe naman ang bakuna para sa mga bata edad lima hanggang labing-isa. Ang kapatid ko ay doctor at siyempre makikinig ako sa sasabihin niya. Hindi naman tayo ipapahamak ng ating mga doctor (Based on the experts, the vaccine is safe for children 5 to 11 years old. My sibling is a doctor and of course I listen to what he says. Our doctors won't put us in danger),” he added.
Pangilinan’s view is consistent with the opinion of the Pediatric Society and the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines, saying that Filipino parents have nothing to be worried about as vaccines are generally safe.
These organizations cited a study commissioned by the New England Journal of Medicine which showed that vaccines are effective to kids, preventing 90.9 percent of symptomatic COVID-19 cases.
The Department of Health (DOH) has started its vaccination campaign for children last Feb. 7.
