UFC: Striegl absorbs second straight loss vs Skelly

Mark Striegl absorbed his second straight defeat in the UFC as American veteran Chas Skelly knocked him out in the second round of their featherweight bout in UFC Fight Night 201 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas Saturday, Feb. 19 there (Sunday morning in Manila).

While it wasn't the result Striegl had expected, Chas, on the other hand, put on a show on his supposed swan song in the Octagon.

When both fighters got back on their feet midway the second round, Skelly was quick to regain his stance and landed a couple of shots on Striegl.

The 36-year-old Skelly capitalized on the gassed Striegl as he landed a short uppercut and followed it up with a zooming left elbow strike.

Skelly grabbed the biggest chance for the finisher as he held the Filipino's head and threw a vicious knee that sent the Filipino down the canvas.

The man known as "The Scrapper" continued the punishment with ground and pound action until referee Keith Peterson intervened and halted the match at the 2:01 mark of the second round.

"It feels great. This is one of those things, I plan on maybe not fighting anymore after this fight. I want to go out on my own terms. My body’s not holding up the way it used to," said Skelly, who improved to a 19-3 record with one no contest decision.

In the first round, Striegl, 2019 Southeast Asian Games sambo gold medalist, leveled Skelly's ground game and had a fair exchange of strikes.

Skelly did not officially called it quits, the seasoned American fighter said he wanted to focus on another career and would consider some options in the meantime.

Striegl, the pride of Baguio City, for his part, dropped to his second straight defeat in the UFC and fell to an overall 18-4 record.
