Marcos' camp denies presidential bet was avoiding handshakes

The camp of presidential candidate Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Sunday refuted alelgations the former senator was avoiding handshakes during the campaign.

Marcos’ spokesperson Vic Rodriguez was referring to the video of Marcos seemingly shunning handshakes from supporters in Caloocan circulating on social media.

Rodriguez said Marcos was merely protecting his hand that got infected after he got wounded.

“Hindi umiiwas sa handshake si BBM (Marcos’ initials), kundi iniiwas lamang nya ang kanyang kamay na nagkasugat sa braso malapit sa may pulso na tila nagka-impeksyon (BBM was not evading handshakes, he was only shielding his woundd arm that seems to have an infection),” Rodriguez said.

But as any leader advocating unity, Rodriguez said the presidential bet did not mind having to campaign even with an injury and just went on to campaign with the whole UniTeam Alliance.

“Labing dalawang oras nang nakababad si BBM sa caravan at rally kahapon sa lungsod ng Caloocan matapos nyang ikutin kamakalawa ang halos buong Ilokandia na kasama si Inday Sara (BBM was campaigning at the caravan and during the rally yesterday in Caloocan for almost 12 hours after touring the whole Ilocos region together with Inday Sara),” he said.

“Patuloy naman kaming iikot ngayon sa Lungsod ng Maynila sa pagpapatuloy ng aming kampanya (We will continue to campaign in Manila),” he said.

Rodriguez then appealed to Marcos’ supporters and fans not to touch his hand or arm to ensure his wounds would heal faster.
