DOST gives P500-K livelihood aid to marginalized communities in Biliran

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Central Visayas has given a P500,000 livelihood aid to the marginalized communities in Naval, Biliran.

"The fund is intended to support the livelihood development, food sufficiency, and nutrition projects of the town under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology Program of DOST," Science Secretary Fortunato "Boy" de la Peña said in a taped report.

Meanwhile, the Biliran Province State University will provide supplies and materials amounting to P100,000 while the local government unit will share an amount of P650,000 for the building and maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE).

The project, entitled "Science and Technology-Based Intervention to the Marginalized Communities of Biliran Province," aims to capacitate the marginalized sectors involving men and women.

"Community will benefit from STARBOOKS that will be given by the DOST for the benefit of students in the area," de la Peña added.

The project also aims to provide technology support for enterprise development on mushroom production and product development on mushroom preservation for food sufficiency and nutrition.
