Valenzuela City kicks off free 'Obstacle Sports Training' program

The Valenzuela City government launched on Saturday, Feb. 19, the free "Obstacle Sports Training" program at the Sports Park in Barangay Wawang Pulo as a culmination event for the week-long 24th Cityhood Anniversary celebration.

The program, in partnership with the Pilipinas Obstacle Sport Federation (POSF), allows the residents, including persons and learners with disabilities (PWDs and LWDs), to try, train, and enjoy the obstacle course racing (OCR) sport using the equipment placed in the park.

The Sports Park, which was inaugurated in July 2021, features different obstacles such as low and high walls, rope climb, monkey bars, rotating challenge rings, nets, balancing logs and steps.

Mayor Rex Gatchalain, POSF president Attorney Alberto Agra, and city councilors were present during the event.

Gatchalian said that the park will provide the residents new activities to enjoy which are different from what they can do while in the city's other parks.

"Dadayo dito ‘yung mga tagalabas, parang nangyayari ngayon sa Tagalag. Uunland ang local economy dito sa Wawang Pulo. Magkakaroon ng hanapbuhay (Outsiders will come here, just like what's happening now in Tagalag . Wawang Pulo's local economy will improve. There will be jobs)," the mayor said."

In February 2020, the local government inaugurated the Tagalag Fishing Village to provide the city a space for leisure, and jobs to fisherfolks and residents.

The POSF is the governing association for OCR in the country composed of adult, youth/kids, seniors, and athletes with disabilities, according to posf.ph.

Valenzuela City's Charter Day is celebrated every Feb. 14. The local government inaugurated different buildings and facilities for this year's week-long celebration from Feb. 14 to Feb. 19.
