Trough of LPA brings scattered rain showers, thunderstorms in Mindanao – PAGASA

The trough or extension of the low pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) brings scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Saturday, Feb. 19.

“Maulap na papawirin na may kalat-kalat na pagkidlat at pagkulog dyan sa Mindanao. Ito ay dala ng trough ng LPA sa labas ng PAR at ng easterlies (Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers may be experienced in Mindanao. It is due to the trough of the LPA outside PAR and the easterlies),” said PAGASA weather specialist Raymond Ordinario in a public weather forecast.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally called “amihan,” affects northern and central Luzon, particularly Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon.

Ordinario also warned residents of Visayas and the rest of Luzon against the possible flash floods and landslides that the easterlies and severe thunderstorms may bring.

“Sa ngayon, maliban sa LPA na binabantayan natin south of Mindanao, ay wala naman tayong nakikitang mga potensyal pang sama ng panahon na pwedeng maging bagyo na maaaring pumasok o mabuo sa loob ng PAR hanggang sa susunod na linggo (So far, with the exception of the LPA that we are monitoring south of Mindanao, we do not see any potential weather disturbance that could enter or further develop within PAR until next week),” said Ordinario.
