The Philippine Swimming Inc. (PSI) kicks off its calendar year by holding the 2022 PSI National Open on Feb. 25 to 27 at the refurbished Rizal Memorial Swimming Pool in Manila.
The event will serve as a qualifying meet for the various international competitions, specifically the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Hanoi, Vietnam in May.
The PSI is also targeting to send swimmers to the 19th FINA World Championships in Japan and the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China in September.
“We hope to send our best athletes to these competitions,” PSI President Lani Velasco said in an earlier interview.
The PSI hopes to eclipse its previous SEAG feat in 2019 where the PH team bagged one gold, six silver and nine bronze medals.
Strict health protocols will still be observed in the three-day affair to ensure the safety of the athletes.
