Long weekend? Drive to this beach cove in Zambales

The summer months are fast approaching, and we see light at the end of the tunnel as COVID alert levels are going down. Life in Metro Manila is slowly going back to normal and we all hope it continues. Perhaps a quick travel escape is now an opportunity for all of us to do since it is not only for leisure but also for our wellbeing.

For family and friends who are asking me about recommendations, I always tell them that a trip to this historic bay located on the west coast of Luzon and in the province of Zambales is worth the time and energy for a weekend getaway.

Subic Bay is known for its deep and protected waters, freeport, casinos, zoo, shipwrecks dating back from the Spanish-American War and World War 2; it is also famous for being one of the closest beach destinations from Metro Manila.

Enjoy the early mornings and sunsets by the Subic Bay.

As you traverse the National Highway and in the periphery of Subic and Olongapo, travelers will reach Barrio Barretto. This town offers a breathtaking view of Subic Bay's sunrise and sunset scene. You can also enjoy the public beach of Barretto, lined with mid-range hotels, Filipino restaurants, and pubs. This beach is a perfect spot for photography enthusiasts and painters.

Going to a beach is never complete without walking at its shoreline and stepping and feeling its sands. The sand of this beach is perfect for kids and young at heart for building sandcastles, while hearing the calming sound of the ocean waves in the background.

Stay for a night in one of the several bed-and-breakfast accommodations.

If your time and budget permit, there are several bed-and-breakfast hotels beside the beach where you can enjoy an overnight stay.
