Pateros emerges as NCR's lone LGU with zero new COVID-19 cases


The Municipality of Pateros, the smallest local government unit (LGU) in Metro Manila, has been listed with zero new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

According to OCTA Research’s Dr. Guido David, Pateros had zero COVID-19 on Feb. 17 and 15, becoming the only LGU in the National Capital Region to achieve it.

David released the new COVID-19 cases for the 17 LGUs in Metro Manila based on data from the Department of Health.

As of Feb. 17, Pateros had zero new COVID-19 cases, achieving the lowest daily tally in the NCR.

Manila ranked first with 70 followed by Quezon City, 57; Pasay, 37; Makati, 29; Pasig, 29; and Mandaluyong, 28.

The NCR LGUs with the lowest daily tally are Muntinlupa, 10; Marikina, eight; San Juan, seven; Navotas, four; and Pateros, zero.

In the last seven days, Pateros ranked first with the lowest COVID-19 daily new cases in the NCR. It had one new COVID-19 case on Feb. 11 followed by two on Feb. 12, one on Feb. 13; two on Feb. 14; zero on Feb. 15; three on Feb. 16; and zero on Feb. 17.

Based on its last public update on Feb. 10, the Pateros municipal government announced that there were 12 active COVID-19 cases in the town including five new cases out of 9,696 confirmed cases, 9.574 recoveries and 110 deaths since 2020.

Before the spread of the Omicron variant last January, Pateros achieved zero new daily COVID-19 cases for three weeks in December.

David classified NCR as low risk as of Feb. 17 based on OCTA Research’s own metrics, with positivity rate at six percent, or the one-week average testing positivity rate; growth rate of negative 47 based on new cases in the current week compared to the previous week; average daily attack rate (ADAR) of 3.45, or average number of new cases per 100,000 population; and healthcare utilization rate of 26 percent.
