The 31st Annual EDDY awards was held live last January and it's another proud moment for Filipinos as Charles Darwin Magdaluyo won 2022 Vystar Teacher of the Year.
In an interview with News4Jax, the human anatomy and physiology teacher at the Jean Ribault High School in Jacksonville, Florida shared, "During that time, I was still in awe. I still can't believe that I won it."

When asked what his teaching strategies are, "Actually, a lot of my students are telling me that it gets hard memorizing all the terms, but in every single concept or every single task that we do, I always make sure that the perfect strategy would fit that specific topic. Not single strategy would work on all of those topics, so I get to plan carefully what strategy I will use in every topic that we tackle. Like inquiry based approach, but most of the time, we do oral and verbal examination because i want to expose them to conquering their fears whenever they talk in front of their classmates."
He stressed that it's verbal or group examination, most of the time. This is to make sure that everybody in the group does their task.
Magdaluyo has been teaching in Ribault High for three years, and was chosen among 180 teachers by a committee of volunteers. He also received a cash prize, a car, and a grant for his classroom. His dream would be to add more laboratory equipment for his students.
