Julia Barretto's first horror flick coming out Feb. 25

Julia Barretto started in showbiz, playing sweet roles befitting her pretty face. However, in the movie 'Bahay Na Pula'' which is streaming via Vivamax on Feb. 25, her acting talent is put to the test in a lot of scary situations with her leading man, Xian Lim. Julia said she said yes to the film only because it was helmed by award-winning director Brillante Mendoza.
"I agreed to do this movie without even hearing the pitch or knowing what it's all about. It's a major turning point in my career. This is my first horror film and this was all about getting out of my comfort zone. At the end of the day, it is all about trusting yourself and your director," the 24-year-old actress revealed.
All the stars in Bahay na Pula - Julia, Xian and Marco Gumabao - agreed that working with Brillante was a "collaborative, learning experience."
"On each shooting day, we always don't know what to expect. Direk gave us the liberty of coming up with our own dialogue. He kept the ending secret from us, so it was all exciting, " Xian stated.
For his part, Marco said shooting the movie was unforgettable because of the creepy vibes of the venue in Mindoro and nature-inspired bonding with his co-stars in a house by the sea.
He added that doing a horror film is also challenging. "Iisipin mo na lang talaga kung ano ang hugot mo sa buhay to make it more realistic.""
Director Brillante pointed out that it was his first time to work with the three young actors, as he's known in the industry for working mostly with indie artists. Another memorable thing was that 'Bahay Na Pula' took all of five years to make. Brillante's last horror film was 'Sapi' which was released in 2013.
