Iloilo City mayoralty candidate arrested for cyber libel


ILOILO CITY—An Iloilo City mayoralty candidate and a radio broadcaster was arrested Friday, Feb. 18, for alleged cyber libel charges.

Iloilo City mayoralty candidate Salvador "Jun" Capulot Jr.

Salvador Capulot Jr., more popularly known as “Jun Capulot” was arrested by Jaro station policemen of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO).

Capulot was caught while inside a café and bakery in Mandurriao district around lunch time.

ICPO’s Jaro Police Station was serving a warrant issued by a court in Guimaras province for complaints filed by former Guimaras governor and congressman JC Rahman Nava.

Capulot is facing six counts of cyber libel.

Hours after his arrest, Capulot was freed after posting bail of P10,000 each.

Capulot has been the subject of cyber libel and libel charges for his acerbic commentaries.

He has faced numerous cases for more 12 years not only in Iloilo City or Iloilo province, but also in other places in Panay Island including Roxas City.

Capulot is running against incumbent Mayor Jerry Treñas.
