Cops lead prayers for safe elections


TACLOBAN CITY -To ensure the safe and orderly conduct of the May 9 elections, the Police Regional Office 8 led the simultaneous launching of “Kawani, Simbahan at Pamayanan (KASIMBAYANAN) for a Secure, Accurate, Free, and Fair Elections (S.A.F.E.) 2022, on Friday, Feb. 18.

Brig. Gen. Bernard Banac, PRO8 Regional Director, said the activity aims to preserve and protect the integrity of the elections through interfaith prayers.

It also serves as an avenue to gather all stakeholders for their public declaration of the pledge of commitment for non-partisan and peaceful elections.

“Time and again, we are reminded of our responsibilities as public servants to do our fair share in the upcoming elections. Let us bear in mind that the success of the elections lies in our hands,” RD Banac said.

The prayer was followed by the lighting of the SAFE candles the signing of manifesto.

The activity was participated in by representatives from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Commission on Elections (COMELEC 8), National Citizens Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL), Parish Pastoral for Responsible Voting (PPCRV), and religious and community leaders.
