Bladed weapons, other contraband seized in Quezon City Jail

Around 36 improvised bladed weapons and other contraband were seized by police during a surprise inspection of detention cells in the Quezon City Jail in Barangay Kamuning on Friday morning, Feb. 18.

The search, dubbed as “Oplan Greyhound,” aims to halt and suppress the use and movement of contraband within the jail premises.

The operation was conducted by members of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG), and Philippine National Police (PNP) led by Supt. Alex D.J. Alberto, station commander of the Kamuning Police Station (PS-10).

The operatives conducted a thorough search and inspection in each cell of the jail from 5:30 a..m. to 11:45 a.m.

The police recovered around 36 improvised bladed weapons, three metal sticks, eight ice picks, four pairs of scissors, and two screwdrivers.

They also found drug paraphernalia such as an empty sachet of suspected drugs, two pieces of syringe, and one pack of lubricant.

Other confiscated items were two cell phones, three DVD players, 109 CD DVDs, two wrist watches, 10 sets of playing cards, four pieces of paddle, and 50 pieces of ballpen and pencil.

The recovered items were placed in the custody of the BJMP investigation section for further investigation and appropriate action. (Khriscielle Yalao)
