PH logs 2,196 new COVID-19 cases, 107 deaths

The Department of Health reported on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2,196 new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases and 107 deaths due to the virus.

Thursday's case bulletin brings the total number of cases to 3,646,793 since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Active cases stood at 66,588 or 1.8 percent of the total number of cases. Among the active cases, 60,848 are mild; 2,913 are moderate; 1,428 are severe; 1,090 are asymptomatic, while 309 are in critical condition.

DOH said that of the 2,196 reported cases, 2,078 or 95 percent occurred within the recent 14 days from Feb. 4 to Feb. 17. The top regions with cases in the recent two weeks were NCR (358 or 17 percent), Region 6 (307 or 15 percent) and Region 4-A (214 or 10 percent).

The agency also reported 4,409 new recoveries, bringing the total to 3,524,875 or 96.7 percent of the total number of cases while 107 more have died from COVID-19 bringing the death toll to 55,330 or 1.52 percent of the total number of cases.

DOH explained that of the 107 deaths, 70 occurred in February 2022 (65 percent), 19 in January 2022 (18 percent), four in December 2021 (4 percent), eight in October 2021 (7 percent), 3 in September 2021 (3 percent), two in August 2021 ( 2 percent), and one in June 2021 (1 percent) due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya.

It said that this issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date.

DOH said that all labs were operational on Feb. 15, 2022. However. three labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).
