Gibo bats for 'blue economy' for food security

Senatorial aspirant Gibo Teodoro on Thursday campaigned for the use of marine resources or the "blue economy" to achieve food security in the country.

Teodoro said the country is rich in marine resources for being surrounded by waters, so these should be harnessed to address issues on food security and poverty.

He also said the government should intensify its efforts to protect and manage marine resources and coastal ecosystems to increase fish stocks.

"It is truly challenging to discuss about food security if we let our marine ecosystems to be under the threat of illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing while we are also facing problems on climate change," said Teodoro, whose political platform includes food security and sustainability.
