Boom Esports, T1 suffer DPC point deductions for Regional Final stand-ins

DPC SEA Winter Tour champion Boom Esports and its runner-up T1 both incurred a 40-percent deduction to the DPC points they were supposed to get after playing with stand-ins in the Regional Finals.

As per Valve rules, teams that will use a sub during a major gets a 40-percent penalty on the points gained during that Major.

Since Boom played Lao player Souliya "JaCkky" Khoomphetsavong in place of Filipino Justin Ryan “Tino” Grimaldo in the Regional Finals, the squad suffered a 100-point deduction while the 250 DPC points it was supposed to get for topping the tournament was reduced to 150 points.

Likewise, T1, which tapped the services of Kim “Gabbi” Villafuerte to play stand-in for Nuengnara “23Savage” Teeramahanon, was also given a 40-percent penalty and only received 78 points, instead of the supposed 130 DPC points for the second placer.

Initially, T1 was set to receive two 40-percent penalty after it also fielded Polaris Esports’ Mc Nicholson “Lelouch-” Villanueva in place of Karl “Karl” Jayme during the Game 4 of the Grand Finals.

BTS then clarified in a tweet that T1 will only get one deduction after the organizers admitted that it was their error when they allowed the substitution.

“During the SEA DPC Regional Finals, we made an administrative error allowing T1 to compete with a 2nd stand-in for game 4 of the Grand Final,” the organizers wrote.

“As a result, T1 will only receive one (1) 40% penalty for DPC points earned during this event since the error was on BTS' side.”

Despite the deduction, Boom, which is led by Filipino stars Timothy “Tims” Randrup and Erin Jasper “Yopaj” Ferrer, is currently the best ranked team in the DPC season with a total of 450 points although it is still poised to change once the EEU, CN, NA and SA Regional Finals are done.

T1 currently sits at the 10th spot of the rankings with 198 DPC points while fellow SEA powerhouse Fnatic was lagging by a few points behind with 180 DPC points enough for a tie for the 11th to 14th spots.

The top 12 teams in the DPC rankings at the end of the three tours will get a direct invite to The International 2022.
