Blue Ribbon panel to study Pharmally exec's wife's request to release husband
Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III on Thursday, Feb. 17 said he favors the release of Pharmally Pharmaceutical corporation Director Linconn Ong for humanitarian reasons.
‘’But as Senate President, I will wait for the recommendation of the (Senate Blue Ribbon) committee,’’ he added.
Being the committee vice chairman, presidential candidate Senator Panfilo M. Lacson said he would recommend that Ong be released immediately.
‘’I go for it kung may sakit ang anak, matagal na rin siyang nakakulong (I go for it if he has a sick son. He (Ong) has been detained for so long,’’he added.
Committee members have been requested for comment on a letter of Summer Ong, wife of Linconn Ong, to have her husband released because their dengue-stricken son needs to see him.
This was the reply by Rodolfo Noel S. Quimbo, Blue Ribbon committee director general, to a letter of Summer Ong who asked that her husband, Linconn Ong, be released from the Pasay city jail.
‘’The Chairman (Senator Richard J, Gordon) found it prudent to relay your request to all members of the Blue Ribbon committee for their comments before any decision on the matter may be made by the committee,’’ Quimbo said.
‘’Senator Gordon commiserates with you in the difficulties of hospital confinement of your son,’’ he added.
‘’Finally, he has also instructed me to relay to you that the Philippine Red Cross is ready to provide assistance should the condition of your son require any blood transfusion,’’ he stressed.
Gordon is chairman and CEO of Philippine Red Cross.
Parts of the Summer Ong letter read:
'’The Senate has forcibly taken my husband from me and our two-year old child especially in these times of uncertainty. I have tried these past many months to remain strong, to trust in the justice system of our country, in the hopes that my husband will be freed soonest. Linc has been imprisoned since September of 2021, and it has been more than five months, and every day I fear for his life and of course our future as a family.
‘’I fervently appeal to you dear Senators to please let my husband go. It is not only I who need him most now, but also our son who is suffering from dengue, who may I just mention is not doing too well and constantly looks for his father. Last year, the Senate robbed us of support from Linc who was also not present to be with us when our family went through two medical emergencies. Even with our constant plea regarding this issue, no action was taken by the Senate.
‘’Now, I fear, that our son, if anything happens to him will no longer see his father if something untoward happens.
‘’Honorable Senators, as my lawyers have told me, upon the release of the full report of the Senate, my husband should have been released from his incarceration. However, Senator Gordon has deemed it necessary to keep him imprisoned even without a crime proven or a case filed by issuing a partial Senate report. The Senate has constantly besmirched the name of my husband, his company, and his reputation, including placing the health and well-being of our family in jeopardy for some senators to have something to use in their reelection bids.
I seek for your and the Senate’s understanding and compassion to please consider setting my husband free. What Linc is experiencing now, the anguish of not being there for his family, the difficult situation in a City Jail, which incidentally has no jurisdiction over him, and the constant fear for the future, with no clear indication as to when this will all end, please pardon my words, is torture brought upon him and to his family by the Senate.
‘’I fear for my son’s life. I also fear for my husband constantly. This sadistic situation we have found ourselves in, we do not wish to be experienced by anyone, not even our worst enemies. I appeal to your heart as parents, as spouses, and good Senators of the Philippines to please free my husband.
‘’As his wife, I guarantee that when the proper time comes, when the proper charges are filed, we, together will face the challenges together. In the meantime, let him be with his son.’’
