Cloudy, rainy in some Luzon areas due to shear line, 'amihan'

Cloudy skies and some rains caused by the shear line and northeast monsoon may continue to affect parts of Luzon in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, Feb. 16.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may affect Aurora and the northern portion of Quezon due to the shear line--a region where warm and cold winds converge.

PAGASA advised those in areas affected by the shear line to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of moderate to at times heavy rains.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may bring cloudy skies and light rains over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, and Nueva Vizcaya.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light amihan rains may prevail over Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Region, and the rest of Central Luzon.

PAGASA said that Metro Manila and the rest of the country may continue to experience partly cloudy to cloudy conditions with isolated rain showers brought about by the warm easterly winds and localized thunderstorms.

However, the public is still advised to remain vigilant as severe thunderstorms may sometimes trigger flash floods or landslides.
