World Athletics recognizes Juico's Patafa leadership, encourages disputes to be resolved internally

World Athletics reiterated its recognition to Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (Patafa) officials who were elected last November.

In a letter to Patafa president Philip Juico dated Feb. 10, 2022, World Athletics chief Sebastian Coe confirmed that “Patafa has fulfilled its obligations of World Athletics membership in 2021, and details of Patafa and its current office bearers are set out on the World Athletics website.”

The sports’ world governing body also said Juico, who was chosen in the last Patafa elective General Assembly held Nov. 10, 2021, was the voting delegate for the country at the World Athletics Congress last Nov. 17, 18, 2021.

“I trust this clarifies World Athletics’ position with regards to Patafa,” Coe wrote.

Coe also explained World Athletics’ stand on internal matters.

“We encourage all internal disputes of a Member Federation to be resolved in accordance with stated processes and procedures for resolving disputes in a Member Federation’s Constitution or applicable relevant Rules and Regulations and that these are run fairly for all concerned,” Coe wrote.

At the moment, Patafa and pole vaulter EJ Obiena have yet to resolve their issue involving an allegation on misuse of government funds.
