Scattered rains may affect some Luzon, Mindanao areas due to shear line, trough of LPA

Some areas in Luzon and Mindanao may experience scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours due to the shear line and trough of a low pressure area (LPA), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
The shear line may bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers, and thunderstorms over Aurora and the northern portion of Quezon.
Likewise, the trough or extension of an LPA may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over Caraga, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, and Soccsksargen.
PAGASA weather specialist Ana Clauren said the LPA at 1,500 kilometers east of Mindanao has a slim chance of developing into a tropical depression as it may dissipate within 24 to 48 hours.
However, those in areas that will be affected by the shear line and trough of LPA were advised to remain vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides due to the occurrence of moderate to at times heavy rains.
The northeast monsoon, locally called "amihan," may bring light rains over Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative Region, while isolated light rains may prevail over Ilocos Region and the rest of Central Luzon.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to the warm easterly winds and localized thunderstorms.
PAGASA also advised those in areas that will likely be affected by severe thunderstorms to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides.
