K-pop group TWICE cancels US concert tour promotions due to COVID-19 scare

K-pop group TWICE are in the US for their 4th World Tour III but decided to cancel promotional activities and meet-and-greets due to the coronavirus disease (COVDI-19) situation.

JYP Entertainment, the group’s agency, issued the announcement, saying the health of TWICE members is priority.

“We sincerely thank you for your warm welcome as we begin the US tour. As this is a chance to meet our fans who have waited patiently in the US, we originally planned promotions and a wide variety of opportunities for meet-n-greets,” according to the agency.

It added, “However, due to the severity of the COVID-19 situation, we have decided to had no option but to cancel all promotions, as the artists' health is our number one priority, and must proceed with the tour in the safest way possible.”

“JYP Entertainment and TWICE members are sorry and saddened to announce this. However, this decision is mandatory for a successful tour schedule, and we would like to ask for your kind and deepest understanding. To enjoy the concert full of joy in a safe way. We are very excited to perform for you, and sincerely hope that our fans will take care and stay healthy,” it added.

TWICE launched the World Tour in Seoul last December. They left South Korea last Feb. 13 and will hold their first concert on Feb. 16 at The Forum in Inglewood, California.

This will be followed by a concert on Feb. 18 at Oakland Arena in Oakland, California; Feb. 22 at Dickies Arena in Dallas, Texas; Feb. 24 at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia; and Feb. 26 at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York.

Last Dec. 17, Youngseung, a member of K-pop boy band Verivery, tested positive for COVID-19 in Ohio during the group’s first US tour.

As a result, all the remaining shows of Verivery in Cleveland, Ohio; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and New York City, New York were canceled. He recovered on Dec. 27.
