Eleazar vows more job opportunities, health care support to empower senior citizens
Former national police chief and senatorial candidate Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar vowed to push for more job opportunities and health care for senior citizens in a move to empower the elderly especially amid the adverse effects of the pandemic.
Eleazar, who is running for senator in the May 9 elections, said there are still a lot of senior citizens who are fit to work but were only forced to quit the job due to retirement age.

He then cited a news report about a senior citizen who applied and later hired as a call center agent.
“Karamihan naman sa ating mga senior citizens ay malalakas pa at napilitan lang tumigil sa trabaho dahil sa retirement age.Ito ang isa sa mga pagtutuunan natin ng pansin ay ang pagbibigay ng mas maraming trabaho sa mga senior citizens na malakas at puwede pang kumita (Most of our senior citizens can still work but had to stop working after reaching the retirement age. This is one of the priorities that I would work on, more jobs for senior citizens),” said Eleazar.
He made the statement during a meet and greet with senior citizens in Tanza, Cavite on Monday, Feb. 14.
Eleazar also vowed to ensure a support system for the senior citizens when it comes to their medicine and health care needs.

Eleazar has been advocating to bring doctors and medicines closer to the people through a regular barangay medical visitation especially in far-flung areas for the check-up and the downloading of basic medicines and maintenance especially for senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).
He argued that since some senior citizens and PWDs, especially from remote areas, could not easily travel for their medical needs, the solution is for the government to bring the basic health care needs for them in order for them to feel that they are not neglected and deprived of basic health services from the government.
Eleazar said since senior citizens used to be big contributors to economy when they were still young, it is the responsibility of the national government to take care of their needs.
