DICT, NBI should investigate recent cyber attacks on media -- NUJP
Amid the recent cyber attacks on several news sites in the Philippines, the National Union of Journalists (NUJP) called on the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Bureau of Investigation Cybercrime Division to look into these incidents and hold the perpetrators accountable.

“Over the past few months, several news sites have been subjected to cyber attacks. While the recent cases of distributed denial of service (DDoS) against a number of corporate media outfits have not been investigated yet, the timing and frequency raise our suspicion that the cyber attacks are orchestrated, systematic, and politically motivated,” said NUJP in a statement on Tuesday, Feb. 15.
The statement came after various news sites in the country were attacked by a group calling itself “Pinoy Vendetta.” According to NUJP, the group was endorsed by the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and was encouraged to “take down more websites.”
“We call on the DICT and NBI Cybercrime Division to look into these incidents, stop the cyber attacks, and identify and hold the perpetrators accountable,” said NUJP.
The union of journalists reiterated that “cyber censorship has no place in a democracy.” It likewise stated that the ones behind the attacks are “so afraid of the truth that they try to put down the websites of news organizations.”
