Asa Miller seeks redemption in slalom

Asa Miller leaves his heartbreaking giant slalom performance behind when he competes in the men’s slalom Wednesday in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

The first run starts at 10:15 a.m. at the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre while the second run is scheduled at 1:45 p.m. with the 21-year-old Fil-Am skier hoping to finish this time.

Miller, who sought to eclipse his 70th finish at the 2018 Pyeongchang edition, crashed out early in the first run of the giant slalom race amid challenging weather condition that also saw 32 other competitors not finishing their runs.

Miller refused to blame the weather – it snowed for the first time in weeks at the Ice River during the event – and said it was part of the game.

He vowed to learn from the bitter lesson of that day.

“I’d kind of lost my focus when I got into the gate for so long waiting, and forgot what I want to think about, so I need to make sure to stick to my plan for slalom,” said Miller, who was 63rd in the start list.

For the Oregon native, Miller said slalom would be his redemption.

“I know I will put my best out there again and hopefully things align and we get a nice result,” he said.
