The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) deployed its "Hot Meals on Wheels" food truck to assist families who were affected by a recent fire that hit three barangays in Cavite City, currently staying at the evacuation area in Ladislao Diwa Elementary School.

In a statement on Monday, Feb. 14, PRC said that it also immediately deployed a firetruck, ambulance, and a water tanker with 11-manpower to assist affected families. PRC said that the fire reached the 5th alarm and hit three barangays namely Brgy. 24, 25, and 26 in Cavite City on Feb. 12.
It added that reports claim that an estimated 4,000 families and 800 houses were affected by the incident. The organization mentioned that PRC Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Sen. Richard Gordon immediately deployed its Hot Meals on Wheels and distributed porridge with eggs to 305 individuals.
“Nagpadala kami ng food truck sa naapektuhan ng sunog noong Feb. 12, 2022. Ang pagkain ay isa sa pinaka kailangan ng tao at ito ay libre. Pipila na lamang sila at kakainin nalang ito hindi na nila iisipin kung paano lutuin. Red Cross is always here to alleviate the suffering of the Filipinos (We deployed a food truck to those affected by the fire on Feb. 12, 2022. Food is one of the things they need most and it's free. They will just line up and eat and will no longer think about cooking),” Gordon said.
PRC said that it has a total fleet of 29 food trucks stationed in the key-strategic areas, where it also serves as the first respondents in times of disaster, calamities, and conflict.
"At the height of the surge in COVID-19 cases last 2021, PRC Hot Meals recently provided ready-to-eat meals to COVID-19 affected families and during Typhoon Odette operation, where it also served 117,584 individuals since it started its typhoon operations last December 2021," it added.
Meanwhile, PRC continues to provide relief to those affected by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Last Feb. 11, 2022, volunteers from PRC Malabon Chapter provided 200 hot meals to COVID-19 affected individuals at Barangay Panghulo.
"Ang aming layunin ay magbigay ng pag asa sa mga nangangailangan lalo na ngayong pandemya. Anuman ang mangyari, patuloy lang ang pagserbisyo ng Red Cross volunteers at staff upang mas marami pang matulungan na mga Pilipino sa iba't ibang sulok ng Pilipinas (Our goal is to give hope to those who are in need especially amid the pandemic. Whatever happens, the service of Red Cross volunteers and staff will continue to helop more Filipinos in different parts of the country)," Gordon said.
PRC said that its Malabon Chapter has now provided 600 meals since launching its Community Feeding program this month targeting seniors and children around Malabon.
On Feb. 2, 2022, PRC served 150 beneficiaries in Katarungan St. Brgy. Muzon while on Feb. 3, PRC volunteers provided meals to another 150 beneficiaries in N. Vicencio St. Brgy. Niugan. Community feeding was also conducted last Feb. 8, at Barangay Hall Potrero serving 300 beneficiaries.
