Fire leaves 50 families homeless in Marikina City

A fire hit a residential area in Barangay Nangka, Marikina City, destroying 25 houses and displacing about 50 families or 375 individuals on Monday morning, Feb. 14.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire on Balubad Street was raised to the first alarm at 10:38 a.m. and reached the second alarm at 10:56 a.m.

The fire was put under control by 11:43 a.m. and declared out at 1:15 p.m.

No casualties or injuries have been reported by the BFP.

According to Senior Fire Officer IV (SFO4) Gemar V. Dela Torre, the fire originated from the terrace of a two-storey residential building owned by Marina Galla.

However, probers are still determining the cause of the fire.

The BFP said the fire left some P100,000 worth of damage. (Khriscielle Yalao)
