Asa Miller is moving forward from a heartbreaking performance in the men’s giant slalom Sunday at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics where he failed to finish his first run.

In a social media post hours after the event, Miller accepted it was part of the game.

“Charge hard out the gate today, and sometimes, it doesn’t all work out. Ski racing’s tough like that, but I’m grateful for the opportunity to be out there,” he wrote.

“Even though it wasn’t my day, I’m super proud of all my friends who achieved and fought like hell for it.”

Heavy snowfall that caused low visibility hampered Miller’s campaign as well as 32 others who did not finish their first run at the Yanqing National Alpine Skiing Centre.

Organizers even had to delay the second run for an hour to wait for the weather to improve.

Some events were also cancelled or delayed because of the weather condition.

“You can’t see much, you don’t know where to put your feet,” said the eventual bronze medal winner Mathieu Faivre of France after his first run in an interview with The Guardian.

Switzerland’s Marco Odermatt eventually captured the gold medal with a combined time of 2 minutes and 9.35 seconds.

Despite this, Miller is looking forward to his second event – men’s slalom – on Wednesday at the same venue.

“On to the next... slalom coming at you on the 16th,” he wrote.
