40 Navoteños tie the knot on Valentine's Day

The Navotas City government held a "Kasalang Bayan" or mass wedding for 40 couples on Valentine’s Day, Monday, Feb.14.

Mayor Toby Tiangco, who officiated the ceremony, congratulated the newly married couples and asked them to be good examples to their children.

"Dito sa ating lungsod, isinusulong natin ang pagkakaroon ng isang buo at masayang pamilya. Itinataguyod natin ang kahalagahan ng bawat pamilyang Navoteño at ang lahat ng miyembro nito (Here in our city, we promote the significance of having a complete and happy family. We promote the importance of every Navoteño family and all of its members," Tiangco said.

"Tayong mga magulang, hindi tayo pwedeng maging mahina dahil nakasalalay sa atin ang pananatiling buo ng ating pamilya. Nakasalalay sa atin ang maayos na kalagayan at kinabukasan ng ating mga anak kaya mahalin ninyo nang lubos ang isa’t-isa at ingatan ang inyong mga pamilya (We, parents cannot be weak because keeping our family complete depends on us. Our children's well-being and future depends on us, so love each other deeply and take care of your family," the mayor added.

The mass wedding is being conducted annually by the local government to encourage live-in couples to legalize their union.

Representative John Rey Tiangco, Vice Mayor Clint Geronimo and city councilors also stood as witnesses at the ceremony.

Rep. Tiangco reminded the newlyweds to continue loving and supporting each other.

Meanwhile, the local government also opened the "Kalye Pag-ibig" food bazaar at the Navotas Citywalk and Amphitheater as part of its Valentine's Day celebration.

Residents can visit the bazaars daily, from 5:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
