Taguig City’s weekly tally of new coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases has decreased by 50 percent.
The Taguig City government reported that from Feb. 4 to 10, a total of 1,558 new COVID-19 cases were recorded, down by 1,555 cases or 50 percent from 3,113 new cases from Jan. 28 to Feb. 3. The city recorded 2,662 new COVID-19 cases from Jan. 21 to 27.

The new total is equivalent to an average of 223 cases per day compared to 445 new cases per day last week.
As of Feb. 11, Taguig has 584 active COVID-19 cases including 150 new cases out of 62,656 confirmed cases, 62,608 recoveries and 464 deaths since 2020.
The city government said as of Feb. 11, 26 out of 100 beds, or 26 percent, at the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital were occupied.
During the “Laging Handa” public briefing on Feb. 12, Health Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire said, “The government is preparing for us to transition into this new normal.”
But she said that this does not mean that safety protocols will no longer be implemented. He said people should still follow minimum public health standards including wearing of face masks, physical distancing, handwashing and avoiding crowded places.
Vergeire said shifting to the new normal will come if the number of COVID-19 cases continues to go down.
“All of that is being prepared by our national government and slowly in the coming weeks and months we will transition to our new normal if the decrease in our cases continues,” she said.
Regarding shifting to Alert Level 1, the lowest quarantine classification by the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), Vergeire said “our new normal is equated or equivalent to our Alert Level Number 1.”
For the country to be placed under Alert Level 1, she said, the case trend should be minimal to low risk.
“This means the cases recorded in every place in the Philippines should be minimal to low risk. It should be low, the average daily attack rate should be less than seven, healthcare utilization, hospital use should be low risk too in order for us to become Alert Level 1,” said Vergeire.
