Red Cross distributes 'hot meals' to Marikina City residents

The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Marikina Chapter distributed more than 60 hot meals to residents of Barangay Tañong in Marikina City on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 12.

Marikina City Councilor and PRC Marikina Chapter Chairman Serafin “Bojie” Bernardino led the community feeding program at the multi-purpose hall in Barangay Tañong from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The hot meals feeding program serves as PRC’s response to provide nutritious food to people in emergency situations which was utilized extensively during the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

The staff and volunteers of PRC Marikina prepared bowls of newly-cooked Arroz Caldo for persons with disabilities (PWDs), children, senior citizens, and members of the Tricycle Operators and Drivers’ Association (TODA).

A free blood typing drive was held along with the feeding program as part of PRC’s advocacy to deliver accessible welfare services to communities.

In line with the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive, the PRC Marikina administered the first doses of the vaccine and booster shots through the PRC “Bakuna Bus” in Nangka Elementary School in Barangay Nangka, Marikina City on Feb. 10 to Feb. 11.

Around 500 security guards and employees of the Manila Light Rail Transit (LRT), Santolan Station in Pasig City were also inoculated on Feb. 12 through the PRC Bakuna Bus, the Marikina City government, and the Variance Security Agency Corporation.

On Friday, Feb. 18, PRC Marikina will hold a mass blood donation drive at the parking area of the Marikina City Council legislative building from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

PRC Marikina maintained that they strictly followed the minimum health and safety guidelines in all their interactive activities with communities. (Khriscielle Yalao)
