No PDAs please, PNP reminds couples on Valentine's Day

The Philippine National Police (PNP) advised couples celebrating the Valentine's Day to refrain from engaging in Public Display of Affection (PDA) as this amy contribute to the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

"The PNP acknowledges the very essence of Valentine’s as a celebration of love but we would like to remind everybody to take care of themselves and consider the safety of other people," said PNP spokesman Brig. Gen. Rhoderick Augustus Alba.

"Also, let us refrain from doing Public Display of Affection so we can set a good example to others, especially that that part of the protocol is to wear face masks," he added.

Alba issued the statement as a number of couples are expected to celebrate the Valentine's Day as early as Sunday, Feb. 13 to Feb. 14.

Part of the celebration is to go on a date that include dining and going to popular places.

"May we remind the public to avoid crowding or gathering in public areas. Let’s continue to adhere to the minimum health standards because the threat of the coronavirus is still very much felt," said Alba.

He also remind couples to be wary of criminal elements that may prey on them as they celebrate the Valentine's Day.

Alba said criminal elements that include robbers and snatchers are just lurking in various areas, waiting for the opportunity to strike.

"On Valentine's Day, let us show that love to our fellow countrymen by contributing towards a healthy and safe living," said Alba.
