Police probe murder of Customs' IT operator in Manila

Police are investigating the gunslaying of an information technology (IT) operator of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) in Sta. Ana, Manila at around 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11.

Police Maj. Geuel Capuz, deputy station commander of the Sta. Ana Police Station (PS 5), identified the victim as Gil Manlapaz Jr, 47.

The report released by the PS 5 said Manlapaz parked his car in front of a waiting shed on Pedro Gil corner Pasigline St. in Sta. Ana, Manila and proceeded to his ancestral home.

When Manlapaz returned to his car, a gray Toyota Fortuner, an unidentified gunman appeared beside the driver seat’s window and repeatedly shot him.

Manlapaz’s relatives and friends immediately took him to the Santa Ana Hospital in Manila, but he was declared dead at around 8:51 p.m.

Police said the gunman was described by witnesses as about 45 to 50 years old, wearing a black jacket, a pair of denim pants, and a helmet with a mix of red, yellow, and white colors.

The firearm used in the shooting incident has yet to be identified.

The Manila Police District (MPD) said investigators are reviewing the CCTVs at the crime scene and nearby areas to track down the suspect.(Khriscielle Yalao)
