CAVITE CITY – A fire broke out in a residential area called Palace in Barangay 24 and spread across Barangays 25, 26, and 27 on Saturday (Feb. 12).
Vice Mayor Denver Chua told the Manila Bulletin that the fire, which reached alarm level five, razed over 200 houses in Barangay 24 alone.

The number of damaged houses in the other three barangays is yet to be assessed.
As of 4:45 p.m., the fire in Barangays 25 and 27 has been put out while the flames in Barangay 24 have been declared under control.
Firefighters are still trying to control the fire in Barangay 26.
According to Chua, there was a brownout in the city before the fire broke out.
Authorities are investigating whether the fire was caused by an unattended candle or an electric cable spark.

The local government unit is preparing to declare a state of calamity to release funds for financial assistance for residents who lost their homes.
Fire victims are being evacuated to Ladislao Diwa Elementary School.
