Election paraphernalia to be deployed first in farflung areas

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will first deploy election paraphernalia in farflung areas.

"Generally, the furthest places will be first," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a virtual press briefing Friday, Feb. 11.

The poll official, however, did not reveal what these places are for security purposes.

"Usually you are talking of island municipalities that are being prioritized. It could be North, it could be South," said Jimenez.

On Thursday, the poll body announced that the deployment of various election-related equipment, peripherals, forms and supplies to be used for the May 2022 National and Local Elections has already commenced.

The Comelec said election items that are ongoing deployment from their warehouse in Sta. Rosa, Laguna to local hubs nationwide include the vote counting machine (VCM) external batteries, until March 31, and ballot boxes, until April 10.

Non-accountable forms and supplies are the next to be deployed on Feb. 16 from the Comelec warehouse in Quezon City to the provincial and city treasurers in priority areas.

The dispatch of the VCMs, consolidation and canvassing system (CCS) machines, and transmission equipment will be from April 2 to 19.

The official ballots and indelible ink coming from the National Printing Office (NPO), on the other hand, will be deployed to the city and municipal treasurers from April 20 to May 5.
