As presidential candidates ramp up their campaigns in cities and provinces, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday, Feb. 11, reminded them to put the electorate’s safety their primordial concern amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
On Feb.8, the campaign period for national elective posts officially started, with various groups and candidates holding rallies and motorcades with their supporters.

“All Presidential candidates and their campaigns should remember that the safety of the electorate should be their top priority during campaign sorties,” Comelec Spokesperson James B. Jimenez said on Twitter.
“This means, at the barest minimum, face masks properly worn, and physical distancing properly maintained,” he added.
The Comelec recently maintained that wearing face shield is a must in campaign events as the poll body deems it “a crucial cornerstone of minimum health protocols.”
Comelec said that they are monitoring campaign sorties violating minimum health and safety protocols.
Protective gears such as face shields and face masks are being used in the country in a bid to stem the transmission of the dreaded disease.
