Trough of LPA affects Mindanao; 'amihan' brings cloudy skies, rains in N. Luzon – PAGASA

Scattered rain showers and cloudy skies may prevail over the eastern section of Mindanao in the next 24 hours due to the trough of low pressure area (LPA) spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’ affects extreme northern Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Thursday, Feb. 10.

“Yung amihan ay patuloy na nakakaapekto doon lamang sa extreme northern Luzon. Itong mga kaulapan na nararanasan ay dulot ng trough of LPA (The northeast monsoon continues to affect the country but only the extreme part of northern Luzon. Meanwhile, these cloud clusters that affect Mindanao is due to the trough of LPA),” said PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio in a public weather forecast.

The LPA was spotted 955 kilometers (km) southeast of Mindanao. According to Aurelio, it is less likely to enter PAR nor further develop into a tropical cyclone.

Residents of Caraga, Davao Region, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, Samar, and eastern Samar were warned against the possible impacts of the trough of LPA which may include flash floods and landslides.

Meanwhile, PAGASA said that the northeast monsoon may bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light and isolated rains in Batanes, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and the rest of Cagayan Valley.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience warm and fair weather with a chance of isolated rain showers due to the easterlies and localized thunderstorms.
