The national government aims to vaccinate at least five million Filipinos during the third “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” program, said National Task Force (NTF) against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) special adviser Dr. Teodoro “Ted” Herbosa on Thursday, Feb. 10.

In the “Laging Handa” public bring, Herbosa disclosed that the third “Bayanihan, Bakunahan” program or National COVID-19 Vaccination Days has commenced on Thursday, Feb. 10 and it will continue until Friday, Feb. 11.

The program was held in hopes of ramping up the country’s vaccination drive and possibly reach the unvaccinated population, especially in remote areas.

“We are starting today, Feb. 10 at Feb. 11 bukas, ang pangtatlong Bayanihan, Bakunahan program. Ito ang pangatlong beses na magc-create tayo ng vaccination days para mahabol natin ‘yung 70 million Filipinos fully vaccinated (We are starting today, Feb. 10 and Feb. 11 tomorrow, the third Bayanihan, Bakunahan program. This is the third time we will create vaccination days to catch up with the target of vaccinating 70 million Filipinos),” he said.

According to Herbosa, the government aims to vaccinate at least 5 million Filipinos during the program.

“Ang target na sinet ng ating vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez ay makagawa tayo ng five million doses, maibakuna natin ngayon at bukas. So siguro 2.5 million ngayon at 2.5 million bukas (Our vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez has set a vaccination target of 5 million. Maybe we can vaccinate 2.5 million on Feb. 10 and 2.5 million on Friday, Feb. 11),” he said.

The country has at least 12 thousand available vaccination sites solely for the National COVID-19 Vaccination days. Some of these include pharmacies and drugstores that have likewise joined the “Resbakuna sa Botika” program, as well as schools and local government units (LGUs) with vaccination sites.

Meanwhile, the vaccination will focus on areas with large population namely Metro Manila, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, Western Visayas, and Central Visayas.

“Hopefully ma-attain natin yung five million at umabot pa ng 6 million (Hopefully we can attain the five million and maybe even reach 6 million),” Herbosa added.

The Department of Health’s (DOH) National COVID-19 Vaccination Dashboard showed that as of Feb. 4, a total of 59,899,717 Filipinos have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
