'No legal, factual basis': Lawyers slam Senate Blue Ribbon report on Pharmally case
Lawyers of those recommended by the Senate Blue Ribbon committee report to be criminally charged arising from the controversial multi-billion-peso Pharmally Pharmaceutical Corporation contracts with the Procurement Service, Department of Budget and Management (PS-DBM) said the committee conclusions have no legal nor factual basis.
Lawyer Raymund Fortun, legal counsel of Michael Yang, said the report was done not in aid of legislation but solely for re-election.
Fortun was referring to the re-election bid of Senator Richard J, Gordon, committee chairman.
The Gordon committee report released late today recommended the deportation of Yang, a former economic adviser of President Duterte, ‘’for his role in an anomalous procurement deal entered by government with an upstart company (Pharmally), among other criminal violations.’'
‘’Mr. Yang looks forward to the report being handled by an impartial investigation body that would decide the case based on actual evidence instead of hallucinations,’’ Fortun said in a Viber account message.
Another lawyer, Ferdinand Topacio, counsel of Linconn Ong, a Pharmally director and the Pharmally corporation, said the report contains ‘’reiterations of all the canard and obloquy that Gordon and his ilk have been repeating like a mad mantra since the first day of the hearings.’’
Also in his Viber account, Topacio said: "As expected, the Kangaroo Blue Ribbon Committee, which has morphed into what is practically a one-man committee dominated by Mr. Dick Gordon and his lengthy ululations, has made a so-called 'partial report' containing nothing but reiterations of all the canard and obloquy that Gordon and his ilk have been repeating like a mad mantra since the first day of the hearings.’’
‘’Truly, these characters -- (Senators Risa) Hontiveros, (Francis ‘’Kiko’’) Pangilinan, (presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo M.) Lacson -- would make Herr Goebbels proud,’’ he stressed.
‘’I challenge Mr. Gordon and company to write finis to the farce they have started and are milking to the last drop to boost their floundering candidacies, and just let the justice system take its course,’’ he emphasized.
‘’There, in the judiciary at least, my clients will be assured of a fair shake, unfettered by the oppression of the medieval Star Chamber into which Gordon has converted the BRC (Blue Ribbon committee),’’ he stressed.
‘’Before the courts, I am confident that the evidence will lead to the eventual acquittal of our clients from the charges recommended by the BRC, whose report is, to quote Shakespeare, 'full of sound and fury, signifying nothing’,’’ he added.
