Western Visayas inflation rate in October at 9.6%, highest in 13 years

ILOILO CITY – Western Visayas registered a 9.6 percent inflation rate in November, the highest in 13 years, the Philippine Statistics Authority said.

“This is the region’s highest recorded inflation since January 2009,” said Nelida Amolar, chief statistical specialist and officer-in-charge of the PSA in the region.

The inflation rate went up 1.6 percent from eight percent in October, the PSA-6 said.

November was the seventh consecutive month inflation increased in Western Visayas, the PSA-6 added.

The PSA-6 also found that the inflation rate in the region in November is still higher than the national average of eight percent.

“The continued acceleration of inflation in November 2022 was mainly due to the higher year-on-year growth rate in the index of food and non-alcoholic beverages at 10.1 percent, from 8.9 percent in October 2022,” noted Amolar.

“This was followed by housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels whose index increased to 11.7 percent, from 9.2 percent in October 2022,” added Amolar.

The regional capital of Iloilo City has once again the highest inflation rate in the region at 12.4 percent from 11.3 percent in October.

Aklan had the lowest inflation rate in Western Visayas at 7.5 percent.

The inflation rate was 11.1 percent in Negros Occidental; 9.3 percent in Antique; 8.8 percent in Iloilo; 8.7 percent in Bacolod City; 8.3 percent in Guimaras; and 7.7 percent in Capiz.
