Phlpost unveils UNCLOS commemorative stamp

The Philippine Postal Corporation (Phlpost) has issued a new stamp that is commemorative of the 40th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The stamp bore the image of former Senator Arturo Tolentino, who was sitting and appeared to be signing a document in front of three other Philippine delegates standing behind him.

The photo was taken during the third UN conference on the law of the sea, according to the stamp.

In a Twitter post, Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Enrique Manalo, who unveiled the special stamp, thanked the agency's partners in the government "for their contributions in this regard."

"As a maritime nation, has been at the forefront of UNCLOS' development as an international legal instrument," he said.

British Ambassador to the Philippines Laure Beaufils, in a Twitter post, congratulated Manalo and the Philippines as they celebrated the UNCLOS anniversary.

"United Kingdom stands firmly beside you. We are committed to international law and to UNCLOS," she added.

On December 6, the Philippines also led the two-day hosting of 12th ASEAN Maritime Forum and the 10th Expanded ASEAN Maritime Forum, which were participated by members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other neighboring countries.

The fora were held in line with the 40th anniversary of the UNCLOS.
